HYDERABAD: Ayodhya Reddy Appointed as State Information Commissioner, Bringing Decades of Media Experience to Key Role
After years of delay, the Telangana government has finally moved to strengthen the State Information Commission (SIC), with the appointment of veteran journalist Boreddy Ayodhya Reddy as one of the new State Information Commissioners. A notification to this effect was issued on Monday by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, shortly after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma to finalise the appointments.
Ayodhya Reddy, who hails from Thurkapally in the Alair constituency, brings nearly two decades of experience in journalism to the post. He has worked with several prominent publications and media houses, earning a reputation for his incisive reporting and deep understanding of public affairs.
Beyond journalism, Reddy has also played an active role in politics. He joined the Congress party in 2017 and served as the official spokesperson and media coordinator for the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) until December 2023. During the 2023 Assembly elections, he held a crucial strategic position as the convener of the TPCC war room.
His appointment is seen as a significant move, given his strong background in both media and political communications. Reddy will hold office for a term of three years from the date he assumes charge or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever is earlier.
The government recently appointed former IFS officer Chandrasekhar Reddy as the Chief Information Commissioner, and along with Ayodhya Reddy, others named as State Information Commissioners include journalist PV Srinivas Rao and advocates Deshala Bhoopal and Mohsina Parveen.
Observers believe Ayodhya Reddy’s presence in the Commission will lend both credibility and clarity to its proceedings, as the state moves to enhance transparency and accountability in public administration.
